Capitol Hill Blue had an interesting commentary on coverage of Sen. John McCain’s verbal outburst during last week’s meeting on the Senate’s immigration bill. I don’t know that I agree with the columnist’s views on what McCain’s comment means politically, but the question of how the press reported or failed to report his verbal blast certainly raises issues.
I hadn’t stopped by the Sustainability in Hawaii blog (SusHI) recently, and found a lot quite a bit of interesting reading there this morning, from a commentary in praise of chickens and an assessment of Maui Land & Pine’s biofuel initiative to discussions of the ethics of climate change. Good stuff.
Rep. Roy Takumi is probably going to get indigestion when he reads a local member of the John Birch Society singing the praises of Takumi’s House Bill 30 to restrict the governor’s ability to bind the state to certain international fair trade agreements. They couldn’t come from much different parts of the political spectrum. And I can’t tell whether conservative bloggers really don’t understand state politics or just prefer to speak of the “State Congress” rather than the legislature, but that same mistake is repeated in this commentary. I ran across the same congressional language in another local conservative blogger’s comments not too long ago.
Should Kauai try to restrain urban sprawl by promoting more development in Lihue? That’s an idea getting play in a recent study, according to The Garden Island’s Kauaiworld.com.
There aren’t many things cuter than a kitten just starting to learn how to play. That’s the state Mr. Kitten is just entering. Patience and a lot of misses paid off in a few good pictures of this kitten’s brave fighter face, like this one. As always, click for a larger version.
And here he is on our bed before my Sunday afternon attempt at a nap. He can’t sleep with us because he relentlessly searches for a familiar nipple, becoming a regular little sucking machine with tiny claws and teeth assisting in the search process. It’s definitely not sleep inducing for humans in his search grid.
