It’s been wet this morning in Kaaawa, with 15 minutes of heavy rain around 4 a.m. followed by off and on drizzle in the hour since then. Kili came in a bit soggy after a night catting around, although I think all the others except Silverman were already accounted for.
Yesterday’s entry drew several comments, so [...]

Tuesday…More on Awana, the Varsity, and Kaaawa calm

5:50 a.m. and I just noticed that my Internet connection has suddenly been lost. I don’t know whether it’s my computer or RoadRunner that has the problem, and I don’t have time right now to troubleshoot. Reboot cable modem…aha, all is well again, at least for the time being.
It seems that a bit of blackmail [...]

Poor Mr. Toby. He’s been trying to adjust to the absence of his favorite neighbors, who vacated their house about 10 days ago. As a result, he’s been staying closer to home for the past week. In any case, here’s a set of the latest cat photos. One shows Leo intimidating poor Mr. Romeo, who [...]

“Happy Fathers Day, Pal!”
That was what someone walking past said on Fathers Day back in June 1999 just after we had pulled a scrawny kitten from a thicket just down and around the corner from our house. It didn’t take long to name this guy “Leo” and he’s been with us ever since. Here [...]

Thanks to the Advertiser’s Peter Boylan for an interesting folo concerning the governor’s chief of staff and state administrative director Bob Awana. Boylan reports that Awana owned about a 1/6 share of Saipan Waste Management, which had a landfill contract on Saipan from 2002-2007 which has been investigated as part of an ongoing public [...]

The Honolulu Advertiser story a couple of days ago about “garage burglaries” in Ewa Beach sounded quite familiar. We’ve had several similar waves of garage thefts here in Kaaawa over the past couple of years, and have personally been hit three times. Most of the thefts in Kaaawa have occurred in the early morning hours, [...]

Thursday…What happened to “fair use”?, the Rodrigues decision, journalism without Google, controlling McMansions
June 14th, 2007 · 3 Comments
It sure didn’t take long for Google to react yesterday morning. At 5 a.m. yesterday Ryan Ozawa’s clip from the KHON video meltdown could still be viewed on Google Video, as noted here in yesterday’s entry. But by later in the morning Google returned a “not found Error 404″ message. What’s happened to the whole [...]

Wednesday-More on the Awana case, and YouTube censors local video catch at KHON’s request
June 13th, 2007 · No Comments
New pieces keep emerging in the case of alleged blackmail involving Bob Awana, the governor’s chief of staff and administrative director of the state, referred to yeterday by the defendant’s lawyer as “the purported victim”.
Federal public defender Pamela J. Byrne, who represents the defendant in the case, Rajdatta Patkar, yesterday filed a motion in federal [...]
