Friday…S-B is late, warranty telemarketers, Friday’s felines

February 22nd, 2008 · 2 Comments

5:40 a.m. and the Star-Bulletin’s web site is still displaying yesterday’s edition. It’s very unusual for the Bulletin to be this far behind the rival Advertiser.
Another check at 6 a.m. and the Bulletin had Friday’s edition ready to read, with a few obvious glitches like this one.

So it goes in the land of news.
Yesterday’s mention [...]

Governor’s office says extenuating circumstances will delay response to request for disclosure of e-mail

February 21st, 2008 · No Comments

Barry Fukunaga, Gov. Linda Lingle’s chief of staff, yesterday provided a formal acknowledgement of my Feb. 8th request for disclosure of e-mail to and from the governor’s office over a 4-day period. So far, everything has been “by the book”, with delays typical of such requests.
The notice was received within the 10-day window specified by [...]

February 21st, 2008 · No Comments

Ah, it was my brief 15 minutes of blogger fame yesterday afternoon when the New York Times editorial blog , The Board, linked to yesterday’s entry about the Hawaii Democratic caucuses. Their entry has picked up a number of comment describing conditions at other caucus sites around the state.

Congressman Neil Abercrombie joined Honolulu Advertiser employees [...]

The byline strike has put several Advertiser blogs on hold, including Prep Talk by Wes Nakama, Steven Tsai’s The Warrior Beat, and The Capitol Notebook from the capitol bureau. Unfortunately, they don’t have full participation. Browse the ‘Tiser blogs to see which reporters are honoring the union action.
Update: I’m told that the byline strike does [...]

Wednesday…Where’s the rally? And now Dems have to cope with success.

February 20th, 2008 · 3 Comments

I received a notice about a “unity rally” of Honolulu Advertiser employees at noon today where Congressman Neil Abercrombie is expected to make an appearance and offer support. The attachment with info was unreadable…But I’ve since learned the rally will be on the front steps of the Advertiser building. Remember the Star-Bulletin rally in the [...]

The morning after…

February 20th, 2008 · 1 Comment

I’m just out of bed early to check the numbers…amazing. The turnout was nearly eight times the previous record, some 37,000+ for last night’s caucuses vs. the previous reported high of around 5,000. It was amazing.

Here are just a few quick images from our District 47 caucus at Kahaluu Elementary School. Normally a lazy affair [...]

Hawaii Democratic Party Caucuses–Sweet Chaos!!

February 19th, 2008 · 6 Comments

6:00 p.m.- we were still driving towards our caucus site in Kahaluu when a call came in from a friend at Jefferson School, where District 21 was gathering. The line was already out the door of the cafeteria, around the building, and heading into the parking lot. By 6:15, it was out past the parking [...]
