The Newspaper Guild scored a major victory when a federal administrative judge ruled that the Hawaii Tribune-Herald, owned by Stephens Media, violated federal labor law when it fired two reporters and disciplined others. The National Labor Relations Board judge ordered the newspaper to rehire reporters Hunter Bishop and Dave Smith with back pay and interest. The decision confirmed the Guild’s allegations that the Tribune-Herald has illegally interfered with legal union activities.
Stories appeared yesterday afternoon in the Advertiser and this morning in the Star-Bulletin. I don’t think the Tribune-Herald has written about the decision yet.

In other local newspaper news, the Star-Bulletin notes the death of retired business writer, Jerry Tune.
