The Senate Committee on Judiciary and Labor has scheduled decision making on HB 2557 HD1, the so-called reporters’ shield bill Friday morning at 9 a.m.
It looks like there is still considerable disagreement over this bill. Meanwhile, the push for a national shield law continues to generate news. There’s a column in today’s San Francisco Chronicle by Peter Scheer, director of the California First Amendment Coalition. The Wall Street Journal’s Law Blog wrote on the topic yesterday, and there was a good column in Sunday’s Philadelphia Inquirer.
Of course, none of those are going to sort out the nuts and bolts of the current House draft. What’s the Senate going to do?
Check out the new “Inside the Governor’s Mailbox” page via the link on the upper left side of the page. I’ve posted all or nearly all of the emails provided. And I also wrote about the effort in this week’s Honolulu Weekly, in which I gave Gov. Lingle relatively high marks for disclosure, especially when compared to the policies of many other governors on the mainland faced with similar requests.
Advertiser editor Mark Platte says that the newspaper’s new online design is scheduled to appear at 2 p.m. today. Drum roll, please!
Time for a few additional morning dogs.
Dogs tend to be a lot easier to coax in front of the camera than cats.
Promise a small reward and they come back time and again.
