Mrs. Baker's sister was a friend of Kina's, and Mrs. Baker's mother helped in the delivery of the children. Although she was still a school girl at the time, Mrs. Baker took care of Lani and Helen when their mother went to the coast.1,2

Instead, he was assigned a desk job in based on Oahu -- "because he was an island boy and could provide special knowledge and assistance to the military."2
Occupation*between 1947 and 1976Matson Navigation Company, based in Honolulu and later Long Beach CA before obtaining the rank of purser. He first shipped aboard the freighters (principally Hawaiian Packer) and later on Matson's "white ships". When the Mariposa was returned to service, He was made her Chief Purser. His last visit to his mother at her deathbed was wearing his newly won Chief Purser uniform.3,1

Uber die Aufenthaltsdauer und Tatigkeit von Dr. Yonge in Koblenz liegen uns leider keine Hinweise vor. Er wird nur 1844 a1s Arzt im Adressbuch der Stadt Koblenz gefuhrt, wohnhaft Schlossstr. 7. Bekannt ist, dass die englische Einwohnerschaft von Koblenz bereits 1839 ca. 100 Personen zahlte. Fur sie fand am 17. November 1839 in der Kapelle des Koblenzer Residenzschlosses der erste offentliche Gottesdienst statt (Rhein-Mosel-Zeitung Nr. 315, 20.11.1839).

    I have now discovered when and where John Francis Duke got married. It was in 1839 in Brussels, Belgium. I imagine he got married there as it a catholic country. Some four other English couples got married there in that month so I suspect it was a popular venue for English Catholics.
    The reference is in a journal called "the Gentlemans Magazine" which was published for about 100 years from 1783. It sets out events of interest including B.M.D's, of the gentry. The exact entry reads
    "October 1839 at Brussels,John Francis Duke Yonge Esq married to Elizabeth Alice, widow of Colonel Reed of the 62nd Regiment"
    Would you like a copy? The British Library do not allow use of digital cameras but they will scan for one. Cost would be about £1.50, which would help offset postage on the letters.
