| May 1968. Members of the National Guard and Army Reserve in Hawaii were ordered to active duty. The call-up, against the backdrop of the escalating war in Vietnam, brought issues of war and peace to the streets of Fort DeRussy at the edge of Waikiki. On May 13, as the reservists reported to Fort DeRussy for transport to Schofield Barracks, they were met by a group of peace advocates. |
