The occasion was a stop in Hawaii by Miss and Mr. Australian Surf 1959, Jan Carmody and Colin McFarlane. Following a challenge from Honolulu Advertiser Sports Editor Red McQueen in a column, "Paging John Lind", my father went to work and organized a gala welcome, which included a lifesaving demonstration at Makapuu, and a reception at the old Outrigger Canoe Club.
