The peaceful demonstration was part of an ongoing anti-nuclear educational effort by catholic Action of Hawaii and the Hawaii office of the American Friends Service Committee. Here Jim Albertini of catholic Action, back to the camera, addresses those present. Holding the banner, on the left in an aloha shirt and hat, is Colin Bell, former executive secretary of the American Friends Service Committee in Philadelphia. Holding the other side of the banner is University of Hawaii professor Oliver Lee, made famous as a result of the Bachman Hall sit-in of 1968.
