| The research library at Yosemite National Park has records from two of the lodges that operated in the park in the 1870s. That's where we went in search of evidence to back up the family story that put my great grandfather, James Yonge, among a party headed by painter Thomas Hill in 1872 or 1873. We found Hill's name in the register for La Casa Nevada on September 3, 1873. But no sign of James Yonge. Close, but no cigar. |
