In 1972, we were living in the Circle Jade Apartments on Ninth Avenue, just off of Waialae, in Kaimuki. The building was owned by Dai Yen Chang, a dentist who once sat on the Honolulu Board of Supervisors, precurser of the City Council. Somehow, after his term on the board, he was able to get approval for a high rise building, the only one in Kaimuki. In his mid-80s at the time, Dr. Chang, a dentist, still practiced on friends and long-time patients in his office on the ground floor of the building. It was a great place to live. In 1988, after his death, it was converted into condominiums by his family and sold.
