The View from Kaimuki: 1969
Photographs by Ian Lind
In September 1969, we moved into a 15th floor apartment in what was then known as the Circle Jade, located on 9th Avenue in Kaimuki, between Waialae Avenue and Harding. The building was owned by 80-something year old dentist Dai Yen Chang, a one-time member of Honolulu's Board of Supervisors (now called the City Council), who apparently used his political connections to put up what was the only high-rise along Waialae Avenue, if I recall correctly. The views were great, and one day I captured the views of Honolulu in all directions.
