I've only known Ann since graduate school, when I took a class from her when I was a Master's student in History at the University of Oregon in 1969, and she came to teach as a visiting faculty member that summer in the College of Education.

Over the years I have visited Ann in Hawaii several times and she has come here to Eugene (where I am an emeritus prof).

I was saddened by the news, as I am sure everyone else was. I believe the last time I saw Ann was at a History of Education Conference (maybe Chicago) and she and I sat together at the banquet. The next week, one of the presenters and one of Ann's good friends from Wisconsin, Sterling Fishman, suddenly died. Ann and I talked about that when it happened and I guess that is the way life will continue to unfold for us and eventually end.

I have a favor to ask: Ann's niece, Melanie Keppel from Las Vegas, Nevada, was with Ann on Ann's last visit to me in Eugene. Would you happen to have her mailing or e-mail address. Many thanks.

Again, my thanks to you for keeping in touch.

Cordially,

Toby Edson
