Thank you for letting
me know. Having just returned from China -- a trip Ann
made possible just because of a sequence of events -- I'd
not not read newspapers yet. Ann and I were getting
reacquainted through our mutual interests in health and the
arts. I was with Ann at a Sunday symphony as one of her
many "student" guests. She and Dr. Andrew In talked about
his upcoming trip to China; I asked if there were room for
one more and was pleased to find that there was.
Because of Ann, I went with Dr. In's extended family on a
most extraordinary tour. Before I left I promised Ann
that I would work with her to serve her now infamous deck
dinner parties--it having become more difficult recently for
her to do everything herself because of the painful
arthritis. How life expanding that would have been. During
the flight home I was writing the mental "thank you,"
acknowledging her part in the whirlwind of the past month
and how I was looking forward to seeing more of her. We
arrived home July 7. The mental note not
written. Norma Nichols
